Uniform standards for valuation of Property

The National Housing Bank has taken a major initiative to establish a set of valuation standards in association with Indian Banks' Association (IBA). In his keynote address during the seminar on consumer issues in housing and housing finance organised by the Consumers Association of India, Chennai chapter, at Hotel GRT Grand, recently, S Sridhar, Chairman and Managing Director of NHB said that all valuers will have to follow hereafter the prescribed standards if they want business from the banking industry.

A committee in the IBA will oversee this activity. The Institute of Architects' help has been sought to understand similar standards followed in other countries. It is expected that this move would ensure transparency in carrying out the valuation exercise for the lender.
